Welcome John Rowe our new referee mentor

November 4, 2018 by Barry Saunders in Juniors

Welcome John Rowe to Kingscliff District Football Club`s as our referee mentor.

We believe developing good referee`s is major factor of developing the game of football.

As Part of continued efforts to improve the football culture at our club and developing good people for our community,we are excited to have engaged the services of John Rowe to help our young members become competent referees.

We currently have a good core of young referee`s in place and another 15 booked in to take their level 4 referee course which will be hosted at Kingscliff District Football Club.

Here are few words from John:

“Hello, my name is John Rowe and i have been invited by the board of Kingscliff District football Club to join the club as a mentor for the junior referees coming through the system. I have played the game for 24 years and coached my sons for 10 years, but it was only when i took up refereeing 3 years ago  that i got  a more  complete appreciation of the game as a whole.

As some of you already know i helped and mentored the junior referees last year and really got a kick out of seeing how good and dedicated they all were. This year however the club has asked me to step it up and make your club a safe and rewarding place where being a referee is an honour, not just a chore. While i will do everything in my power to help guide the kids through the challenges of becoming a referee i will need your( parents, players, coaches and spectators) help in changing the culture of ” IT WAS THE REFS FAULT”. As only when this happens will we be getting kids wanting to be referees. I believe the vision ” For the Future” that your club has will go a long way in achieving this and something i want to be a part of.

I will be at most games on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings coaching the refs and just being the “go-to” man that they can come to if they have any questions or need any help. Only when the young referees feel comfortable on the field will they be able to do the best job they can.
Feel free if you see me at the  club to come up and have a chat if you have a child that is interested in the many rewards that becoming a referee can give.”
Thanks John
